Babble and Bond:

1-2 years class

In this class, the focus is to build upon those early communication skills, which are key to our children’s development.

Communication and language at this age focuses on the child’s ability to:

  • move their body to sounds they enjoy;
  • maintain focus for short periods on an activity;
  • understand other’s body language;
  • understand simple questions;
  • understanding single words in context;
  • use single words;
  • imitate words and sounds;
  • and use gestures to help with their communication.

This class creates an inviting and sensory-based atmosphere, which supports your mini to participate in the class activities using their voice and bodies. There will be a range of teacher-led and independent activities, allowing you and your mini’s to explore and learn together.

This class will use Makaton signs and symbols to aid language and communication learning, supported by research showing their positive impact on speech and language skill development.

Babble and Build: Early Phonics

2-4 years class

In this class, the focus is on helping children to learn good listening and early speaking skills. This provides the perfect foundations for your mini’s phonics learning.

This class enables you to be part of your mini’s language development in a fun, engaging and safe environment!

Using the early learning goals, these sessions provide children with activities that encourage listening to and using those initial sounds. You and your mini can work with others building those social interactions whilst learning the foundations of phonics.

What is level 1 phonics?

Level 1 is a foundational stage of phonics, which is divided into 7 aspects: environmental sounds, instrumental sounds, body percussion, rhythm and rhyme, alliteration, voice sounds and oral blending and segmenting.

Babble & Build: Early Phonics aims to use these aspects to develop early communication skills, such as good listening and early speaking skills, and build up their awareness of the different sounds around them.

These skills will provide the foundation for your children’s phonics learning, because they’ll need to be able to recognise individual sounds and recite them in order to eventually learn to segment, blend and spell different words. So even though children won’t be learning sounds or the letters and groups of letters used to represent them, this stage is still a very important one!

This class will use Makaton signs and symbols to aid language and communication learning, supported by research showing their positive impact on speech and language skill development.
